The Winter Olympics 2022 is Ongoing! Seeing Cables through Snow and Ice

The Winter Olympics 2022 officially kicked off in Beijing on February 4, 2022. The achievements of “made in China” shine brightly on the stage of The Olympics. Including the costume, related service products and Olympics constructions made in China.

The National Speed Skating Hall ‘Ice Ribbon’, National Alpine Ski Center ‘Xuefeiyan’ and other Winter Olympic venues reflect the conception of green and technology in this Winter Olympics. Among them cables are everywhere. From the construction of "Ice Ribbon" to sensors on outdoor snow track, power companies are required to "supply blood", and the cable assumes the heavy responsibility of the "blood transfusion system" to escort the power supply of Olympics.

The "Ice Ribbon" National Speed Skating Hall is the only new ice competition venue this time. It is surrounded by 22 ribbon-shaped curved glass curtain walls. These 22 'Ice Ribbons' are integrated with a night scene lighting system, while the light and shadow can simulate the flowing picture of speed skaters galloping on the track. At the same time, nearly 100,000 points of real-time data from 36 systems are connected into system, which is equivalent to the super brain of 'Ice Ribbons'. The construction of the venue has extremely high requirements on the selection of cable materials as well as physical and electrical properties.

Known as the "Pearl in the Crown of the Winter Olympics", the National Alpine Ski Center locates in Haituo Mountain. It is the most difficult construction project with the highest altitude and the worst environment among all Winter Olympic venues. The pipeline construction and equipment installation project of the national alpine skiing and snowmaking system requires nearly 50 kilometers of 1kV medium-voltage cables to be laid underground so that the entire track has no overhead lines.

Cables require low-temperature resistance, anti-corrosion and anti-cracking properties in icy conditions. What efforts and breakthroughs have wire/cable enterprises made with the supply of cables for the Winter Olympics cable supplement?

Baosheng Group provides a systematic supply for ‘Ice Ribbon’, including power and electrical equipment cables, smart cables and special fireproof cable series and accessories. A layer of the armored jacket is wrapped around the cable which can withstand general longitudinal tension. It has good resistance of cold, low-temperature and corrosion that allows lay and use in extremely cold environments.

Hengtong Group has developed a high-end special equipment cable after constantly adjusting the conductor structure and raw material formula. It can meet the basic characteristics of -40°C cold resistance, softness and wear proof, also have the requirements of bundled flame-retardant Class A combustion. The carbonization height under the requirement of 50cm greatly improves the safety of cable use. To ensure safe and reliable cable connections and achieve fast and professional installation work, a prefabricated coupler-type flexible cable has been successfully developed for outdoor quick connections. The free combination of any length can be realized in the temporary power supply project.

Qingdao Hanhe has adjusted the raw material and formula ratio of cable production. The rubber material is characterized by its softness and strong toughness, which ensure the flexibility of the mobile cable and low-temperature resistance, anti-corrosion and anti-cracking under technical transformation. The cable can withstand the lowest temperature of -40℃.

The Winter Olympics 2022 is a big stage for athletes and a new starting point for the development of China's ice and snow industry, which presented the power of Chinese manufacturing as well. As the ‘artery’ of the Olympics venues, cables have also contributed to the high-quality development of China's Ice-Snow sports industry.
